New Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth has revealed what Diego Simeone told him when they first met.
Norway striker Alexander Sørloth has revealed what ‘El Cholo’ Diego Simeone told him during his first meeting with the Atletico Madrid coach, with the Argentine boss calling him ‘Cigario’ – or assassin – in an interview with Norwegian broadcaster TV2.
Sorloth joined Atletico Madrid from Villarreal in the summer for an initial fee of €32 million, and the 28-year-old forward has also revealed his first meeting with Simeone.
‘In the first meeting he told me he had given me a nickname, he called me ‘Sigario’ (assassin). He wanted me to be a killer all season, to limit myself to putting the ball in the net, so I will try to live up to that nickname,’ Sørloth revealed.
The 28-year-old forward also reflected on his early days at the Rojiblancos: ‘It’s a great feeling to come to a club where the only important thing is to win. Everyone wants to win something so you have to bring in as many good players as possible. It was an important summer. I was waiting for my move to Atletico Madrid to be done and it finally happened. It’s amazing. ‘
Asked to compare Julian Alvarez to Erling Haaland, Sørloth replied: ‘Julian Alvarez? I think we have great chemistry. I just think it’s an incredible move Promotion Ufabet and he’s an incredible footballer.’
‘It would be different if they signed someone who is 195cm and weighs 95kg. If we signed Haaland, I wouldn’t be happy because we are too similar. Alvarez is a very different player to me. I don’t see him as a competitor.’
